For the first time, Buckley penned all six tracks himself, moving beyond his earlier collaborations with lyricist Larry Beckett and into a more personal, exploratory sound.

From the Miles Davisinspired opener Strange Feelin to the deeply emotional Buzzin Fly and the hypnotic sprawl of Gypsy Woman, the album finds Buckley stretching both vocally and musically. Backed by Lee Underwood on guitar and David Friedman on vibraphone, Happy Sad features lush, mostly acoustic arrangements that leave room for Buckley’s voicehis most powerful instrumentto take center stage.

This edition is part of the Rhino Reserve series, cut from the original tapes by Chris Bellman at Bernie Grundman Mastering and pressed on 180-gram vinyl at Fidelity Record Pressing in Oxnard, CA, ensuring top-tier sound quality and fidelity.
