Recorded across seven sets at Chicago’s Plugged Nickel Caf on December 22 and 23, 1965, the group – Miles Davis, Wayne Shorter, Herbie Hancock, Ron Carter, and Tony Williams – systematically dismantles familiar material and reconstructs it in real time, pushing rhythm, harmony, and form to their limits. Captured in full by producer Teo Macero, these performances reveal a band actively challenging its own repertoire, stretching standards into volatile, exploratory frameworks that reshaped modern jazz.
