Originally released in 1997 this critically acclaimed project was overseen by Ry Cooder, who travelled to Cuba to record sessions with the musicians, many of whom were largely unknown outside of the country at the time. Originally recorded over seven days at Havana’s historic EGREM studios and released in 1997 by World Circuit Records, Buena Vista Social Club became a landmark global success. With more than 8 million copies sold, the album introduced the world to the rich musical traditions of Cuba’s pre-revolutionary era, led by legendary performers including Ibrahim Ferrer, Compay Segundo, Rubn Gonzlez and Omara Portuondo.
Now available once more on deluxe vinyl, this definitive 2LP edition is cut from the original analogue half-inch tapes and mastered by Bernie Grundman – the original mastering engineer. Pressed on 180-gram audiophile black vinyl and housed in a gatefold sleeve, the set includes a beautifully produced 20-page booklet filled with photos and liner notes.
